” Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
Due to a recent hate crime in downtown Austin it has become absolutely crucial for the LGBTQ+ community and victims of hate crimes to come together and show our opposition for all hate crimes. According to crime statistics from the FBI hate crimes have increased by 18% from 2016 to 2017. This is completely unacceptable and reason enough for us to raise our voices and feet to march to the capital.
This is a peaceful, nonviolent march/rally. This cathartic march will help us to make steps in the direction of progress and bring awareness of the demands of LGBTQ+ community to have a safer Austin. We are calling all victims, all family members, all peace warriors, all freedom fighters, and all allies to join us in this march. So bring your flowers, dresses, angel wings, prayers, signs, flags, witch craft, love and energy to march peacefully for the safety of our Austin LGBTQ+ community and victims of any hate crimes.
Location: We will gather at the corner of w 4th and Lavaca downtown in front of Halcyon @7pm and will march on the sidewalk to the Texas State Capitol building @ 8pm.
Spencer and Tristan, recent victims of hate crime in Austin, will join us.
We believe that one day we will live in a world where there be will no more LGBTQ+ hate crimes.
We believe that one day, our LGBTQ+ community will have the safety, health, well being and happiness we rightfully deserved…
May we come together to heal. May we come together to create positive changes for our safety. May we all continue to create a safe, peaceful world that we had imagined for our LGBTQ+ community.
