Everyone has a story. Ben’s story began in the rolling hills of Brenham, Texas, where a young boy who dreamed of helping others emerged as a young man with makeshift plans to turn his dream into a reality. Armed with determination and a faithful hankering for Blue Bell ice cream, he sojourned to Baylor University for a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and then to Mary Hardin-Baylor for a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Christian Counseling. During his time training as a counselor, he encountered an array of clients including fellow students, low-income families, community members, inmates, couples, and at-risk youth. Each one presented a different problem within the context of a uniquely experienced story, where Ben discovered an illuminating truth: Colliding stories always promote the possibility for dramatic change.
Are other people’s stories presently colliding with yours? Are you experiencing the degree of change in your life you most desire? Do you want to modify, alter, or altogether transform your story? Ben will help you create a new story for yourself, encouraging you to find the self-directed solutions that lie beyond the problem. To accomplish this creative work, he uses a client-centered approach characterized by intentional, collaborative dialogue—the kind of dialogue that can change your life. (If you wish, you may discover a more exhaustive discussion of the counseling principles Ben uses described in the book Recreating Partnership by Phillip Ziegler and Tobey Hiller.) Whatever your faith or creed, Ben always invites you to incorporate spirituality into your sessions as you see fit. Counseling involves the aligning of body, heart, mind, and spirit to produce holistic, lasting change in your life. Regardless of the challenges that lie ahead, now is the time to craft a new chapter in your story.
